Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter of their family. Her father's death as a carnival barker, at the age of a little girl and she was forced to provide for the family by working as a cook and server. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She went to school there. But she quit school in the span of two years of school to pursue an acting career. The path she chose did not come without challenges. While in New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills for crime magazines, the theatre work that she longed to do was abyssal. Then, she worked as the hat checker in an evening club, before deciding to call the shots and moving back to Boston. In the New England Repertory Company was the first position she held as a regular actor. The company paid her working during the day in the ushering department. In addition, she was a drama student and later graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
